Netherlands’ Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) Regulatory Body Crackdown on Casumo

Netherlands’ Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) regulatory body imposed a penalty of £310k on Casumo Services Ltd. The company was offering online games of chance to its Dutch customers despite it not getting legal status or required approvals from the government.

The regulator has pronounced similar penalties in the past as well. Casumo Services did offer a wide range of online casino games along with live chat service in the Dutch language, along with the processing of payment using iDeal which is a leading payment processing service.

Casumo has been under the radar of regulators over the past few months. Last year in November’18, the UK Gambling Commission had fined the company for £5.85 million for not taking adequate steps to protect problem gamblers.

The Dutch regulator KSA has made it clear that it will impose “terrifying” new financial penalties on online operators who provide services to Dutch gamblers without the latter’s permission. The announcement came after it imposed a £400k penalty against various operators of the Curacao licensed 1xBet.com and other affiliated domains.

The crackdown on Casumo was the first ever since the text on the updated Gambling Act was updated by the Dutch government in its Official Gazette. The act was approved by the Senate in February, which allows foreign operators to apply for Dutch online licenses. The government has also stated that the operators who have ignored KSA’s ‘keep out’ warnings will not be eligible to apply immediately and will have to wait for two years.

Last year in September ‘18 Betsson AB’s subsidiary Corona Ltd had challenged the £300k penalty imposed by Netherlands’ Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) regulatory body for serving local punter without approval from KSA.

At that time Betsson had stated that the company ensures that its operations comply with laws and regulations of the region in which it operates.
