HGC announces that consultations are welcomed to the Elliniko plot’s casino

Earlier on Thursday, August 9th The Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC), the body responsible for granting new casino operating licenses, made an announcement, revealing that it is starting consultations for the approval of a casino permit at Elliniko, Attica’s biggest development project.

By making this announcement it opened the way for the tender to seek an investor for the project.

Back in 2014 to revamp the 620 hectares of land at the former airport in Elliniko, southern Athens, into an integrated resort of hotels, a yachting marina, casinos, and luxury residences, Lamda, a property developer went on to sign a 99-year lease with the state.

The initial teaser will be released by September 10th, and the HGC has sent an invitation to all interested parties who wish to participate in the consultation to submit their comments and feedback.

In a statement, the commission went on to say that the decision on the purported Integrated Resort Casino (IRC) in Elliniko is not only about the licensing of a gaming facility, rather it “displays the commitment and collective vision to collaborate on the further application and development of a sustainable tourism destination.”

The HGC has a vision to develop a “world-class integrated resort casino operation as a vital part of Elliniko, a project ordained to transform the wider area of Athens along with enhancing the Greek tourism product, transforming into a growth engine for the Greek economy and in turn improving the lives of millions of residents and visitors to our capital city.”

As the HGC is already running short of time to complete the project, it aims to complete the eventual tender by the first week of October.

Also, by receiving submissions of comments during the consultation, the HGC hopes to seek genuinely interested investors.

According to the plan, The IRC is set to be built all across nearly 600,000 square meters and will have a mix of hotels, exhibition facilities, convention, entertainment, themed attractions, gourmet restaurants, a 15,000 sq.m. casino, among other tourist attractions.

During its construction period, Elliniko a landmark urban development project is expected to create nearly 10,000 jobs and an additional 75,000 jobs afterwards.
